A'Tuin

Together with Sara El Hachimi, João Arrobas Rodrigues, Loïc Baillod and Damien Kuntz, Carlo Bechtel founded the band A’Tuin in 2024. All musicians of the quintet have a degree in Jazz, are active in the Swiss jazz scene and have already performed with different formations all over Switzerland and other parts of Europe.

With the newly founded project A’Tuin, Carlo Bechtel plans to release a CD in the summer of 2025 and then play concerts in Switzerland and abroad as part of a release tour.

A’Tuin builds a bridge between Jazz and modern music and lets the different musical backgrounds of the musicians flow into the music. Within the framework of this project, the band wants to offer the audience groovy, danceable music and thus also reach a younger audience.

During the rehearsals, all musicians bring in their own musical ideas and contribute to the fact that the music always remains creative and varied.

Carlo Bechtel is a Swiss Jazz trumpeter and composer, who is active in the Swiss and European Jazz scene. During the last couple of years, he played numerous gigs all around Switzerland and he also had the opportunity to play in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Together with the Antwerp Jazz Orchestra he played alongside the renowned saxophonist Chris Potter.

Swiss saxophone player Sara El Hachimi is a reflective musician who knows how to let her feelings, visions and thoughts flow into the music. Playing across various projects and ensembles including Okvsho, the Basel Jazz Orchestra, and her personal project, Sara thrives as a performer, composer, bandleader, and collaborator in jazz, pop, contemporary, and experimental music.

João Arrobas is a Portuguese pianist who has collaborated with numerous Big Bands in northern Portugal, most notably the Orquestra Jazz de Espinho, performing alongside acclaimed artists like Elliot Mason and João Barradas. Since relocating to Switzerland, he has showcased his new projects at the International Jazz Festival of Bern with his CECO Quartet and Espar Quartet.

Loïc Baillod is a Swiss bass player who continues to develop his music both as a leader and a sideman in multiple projects across Switzerland and Europe. During his studies at the HKB, he received the Friedl Wald scholarship and was invited to the DKSJ tour. In 2023, Loïc was selected for the ZKB Jazz Prize with his group OKWOK and also participated in the concert series Suisse Diagonales Jazz 2024.

Damien Kuntz, born in France, is a highly accomplished drummer, improviser and composer. He is well established in the Swiss Jazz scene and is very active both as a sidemen & as a leader. He plays in several projects such as Noblique or the Flo Pfister’s Tiny Orchestra, both of which have already published recordings. He has become a sought-after musician.
