About

My name is Carlo Bechtel and I’m a Swiss Jazz Trumpeter. I live near Bern and play concerts all around Switzerland. Together with my band A’Tuin I’m bringing my own music to the stage.

Carlo Bechtel, born in the year 2000, is a Swiss Jazz trumpeter and composer, who is active in the Swiss jazz scene. Having played numerous gigs all around Switzerland, he also already had the opportunity to play in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. After he received the degree Bachelor of Arts Jazz, he directly continued his studies at the Hochschule der Künste Bern (HKB). In September 2023, he completed his studies upon receiving the Master of Arts Music Performance – Jazz.

Carlo discovered his love for the trumpet when he was 6 years old and is exploring the expressive possibilities of this instrument since the moment he (more or less) successfully squeezed out his first note on the trumpet. With only 12 years, he started to visit courses and workshops at the Swiss Jazz School (SJS) in Bern including the SJS-BigBand, several ensembles and, after having won the Youth Promotion Award at the Langnau Jazz Nights, the talent promotion course TFM of SJS.

In 2016 Carlo got accepted for the Talent Promotion Music Jazz program of the Gymnasium Hofwil. During his time at the high school, he was part of several musical projects besides school, such as the JUGENDJAZZORCHESTER.CH under the direction of the famous Austrian trombonist and composer Christian Muthspiel.

After having finished the Precollege-courses at the SJS in 2018, Carlo got accepted to start his Bachelor studies at the HKB early due to „special artistic talent“. During his studies at the HKB, he had the opportunity to work with great musicians such as Bert Joris, Ralph Alessi, Dejan Terzic, Jim Black, Django Bates, Stefan Rademacher, Andreas Schaerer, Frank Sikora and many more. In April 2022, Carlo was invited to be part of the Antwerp Jazz Orchestra featuring none other than the great saxophonist and composer Chris Potter. Within the context of this project, he had the opportunity to play in Antwerp as well as in the prestigious jazz concert venue Bimhuis in Amsterdam.
